Pirlo ‘happy’ to continue with Ronaldo next season

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo insisted Saturday he was happy to continue next season with Cristiano Ronaldo whose contract expires in 2022. The Portuguese forward’s future has been under scrutiny after Juventus crashed out of the Champions League in the last 16 for the second consecutive season. “For now we have not thought about it, Cristiano still has a year left on his contract with us and we are happy about that,” Pirlo said ahead of Sunday’s league game against Benevento. “We’re extremely focused on this end of the season. He has already scored a lot of goals and is beyond discussion.” Zinedine Zidane opened the door to Ronaldo returning to Real Madrid on Monday, admitting a comeback is “possible” for the striker. Meanwhile, Ronaldo, the top scorer in Serie A this season with 23 goals, posted a message on Instagram to thank Juventus after being named the best player in Italy by the players’ association on Friday.   The 36-year-old promised “the whole Juventu...

Wike: Amaechi Can’t Say I Was His Employee, I Made Him A Governor

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has said he made Rotimi Amaechi, his predecessor, the governor of the state. Recently, Amaechi and Wike, who fell up in the buildup to the 2015 general elections, renewed their hostility. In an interview he granted last week, Amaechi had said he would not descend to the level of Wike, whom he described as his former employee. “I don’t think I want to address the issue of the governor, I have made my point and I have moved on,” Amaechi had said. “He was my staff, I can’t bring myself low. I was a governor, I was also a speaker, I’m a minister. I was two-term chairman of governors’ forum. The same when I was a speaker. Why should I be discussing him?” But in an interview with the BBC Pidgin service on Friday, Wike said it is not possible to be an employee of Amaechi whom he made governor.   “Amaechi and I were in the same party, and in politics, everybody has his own ambition. He had his ambition to be governor, and at the time, I...

Shapovalov advance to Dubai semifinals

Denis Shapovalov put together another serving clinic to storm into the 12th semifinal of his career with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over French veteran Jeremy Chardy in Dubai on Thursday, while Aslan Karatsev ousted No.16 seed Jannik Sinner. The third-seeded Shapovalov has yet to drop a set this week in the Emirates, and has not been broken in all 28 service games he has played through three matches.   The 21-year-old Canadian fired 26 winners and lost a mere six points on serve throughout the contest against Chardy. In what will be his third semifinal appearance since the tour restarted from its hiatus last August, Shapovalov will take on  Lloyd Harris.  Made By - Faustina Oriji

Keep the games coming, I’ll rest when I retire – Rashford

Manchester United star forward Marcus Rashford has made lots of appearances than any other player at the club this season but the 23-year-old says there is no danger of burnout and wants the games to keep on coming. The England international has made 44 appearances in all competitions, the same number he made for the whole of last season, and United still have nine league games left to play. “I just focus on the next game and that’s how I deal with it,” Rashford said. “I know my body and I know what I can do physically and that’s it. I take one game at a time and it’s the life of a footballer. “We can rest when we retire and for now I want to play as much as I can. I recover from games quite well and from injuries I have no doubts, no worries.” United, who have not won a trophy since 2017 when they captured the Europa League under Jose Mourinho, have little hope of winning the Premier League this season with Manchester City 14 points in front.   Made By - Fausti...
